Join NRLF for a special chance to visit one of the five crude oil refineries in Utah, right in our backyard! On Thursday, October 25, NRLF will visit the HollyFrontier Refinery, tour the facility and speak with a petroleum engineer and Environmental Manager. The field trip will be leaving campus at 1:15pm.
Utah is ranked 11th in the country in crude oil production. Since 2007, the HollyFrontier Refinery, located in Davis County, has been working to modernize and increase capacity. The refinery receives crude oil from Canada, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Proposed changes include using eastern Utah crude oil (black wax) and reducing emissions with the addition of a Wet GasScrubber. Expansion could mean technological advances and possible air quality issues and the HollyFrontier Refinery is currently discussing changes with various state agencies. The field trip will be an unparalleled opportunity for a first-hand look at crude oil production with industry professionals.
