March 12, 2013 — The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law rose six spots in the U.S. law school rankings, according to data compiled by U.S. News & World Report and presented in the 2014 “Best Law Schools.”  For 2014, the College of Law is ranked 41st among 194 ABA-accredited U.S. law schools.  In the past five years, the College of Law has climbed sixteen spots, from 57th in 2008.

For 2014, the College of Law climbed in several key indices weighed by the rankings, including reputation among peers, lawyers, and judges, investment per student, and bar passage. The College’s student-to-faculty ratio places it at 6th among ABA-accredited schools. Recognized as one of the best values in legal education, the College of Law had the 4th lowest in-state tuition among the top 50 schools in the ranking. The College’s Wallace Stegner Center rose to 12th among the nation's top Environmental Law programs.

In an announcement, Dean Hiram Chodosh described the rankings as “an important, albeit imperfect, measure of value.” He added that the U.S. News methodology does not consider the College’s many extraordinary achievements, including its record-breaking 47,000 hours of formal public service in 2012. Earlier this year, the College also ranked in the top 20 most innovative law schools, the top 20 best value law schools, and the top 20 most transparent law schools in the nation.  The College was the only school in the country to make the top 20 in all three rankings.

The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law is in good company:
