October 8, 2013 — Erika George, Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, was recently featured on the American Bar Foundation’s homepage in an article titled “Summer Diversity Fellowship Alumna Erika George Comes Full Circle into Mentorship Role.”
As the article explains, in 1991, while she was an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, George participated in the ABF’s Montgomery Summer Research Diversity Fellowship. She has returned regularly for the past several years as a visiting scholar, including last summer, when she mentored 2013 Fellow Kimberly Quick, a senior at Wake Forest University.
Quick’s responsibilities included serving as a research assistant to George, who is completing a draft of her book manuscript, Incorporating Rights, for Oxford University Press. She also worked with George on other human rights issues.
In the article, Quick described working with George as “phenomenal,” and added, “As a woman of color who plans to attend law school, I enjoyed the opportunity to work with someone whose professional goals and accomplishments reflect a future that I hope to have.”
