Energy development and wilderness preservation are often thought of as competing and incompatible goals. Recent agreements in Utah between conservation groups, industry, and federal and state governments provide real world examples that this does not have to be the case. Mr. Bloch will discuss those agreements and the potential for similar win-win solutions.

Stephen Bloch is an attorney and energy program director for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA).  Steve oversees SUWA’s energy related litigation, administrative appeals and policy development and has led the organization’s negotiations with several corporations including Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and then Bill Barrett Corporation regarding proposed energy development in eastern Utah.  Prior to joining SUWA in 1999, Steve clerked for the Honorable Judith Billings of the Utah Court of Appeals.  He is a 1997 graduate of the S.J. Quinney College of Law.  He lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and three children.
