12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Directly south of Kingsbury Hall

Guest Speaker: Honorable Scott M. Matheson, Jr.


Matheson-Scott 2Scott M. Matheson, Jr., is a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He was born in Salt Lake City, where he attended public schools.  He graduated from Stanford in economics, Oxford in modern history as a Rhodes Scholar, and Yale Law School. He previously served as Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he held the Hugh B. Brown Presidential Endowed Chair in Law. He also has served as a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., Dean of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, United States Attorney for the District of Utah, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Utah College of Law, Visiting Associate Professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, Deputy County Attorney for Salt Lake County, associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Williams & Connolly, manager of two successful gubernatorial campaigns, and legislative assistant in a congressional office.

Guest Seating & Tickets:
Tickets are not required to attend commencement and any interested attendees are welcome. Guest seating is available in designated sections and rows of the Kingsbury Hall auditorium. The academic processional will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Families and guests not seated prior to the 10:00 a.m. start time will have to stay in the lobby and waiting areas until after all graduates and program participants have entered the building.

Parking:
Campus parking lots may be used at no charge during the commencement ceremony. Families are encouraged to drop off those who cannot walk long distances at Kingsbury Hall on President’s Circle before parking their cars. Parking for commencement is available at the Rice-Eccles Stadium parking lot, with shuttles dropping off at Kingsbury Hall.
