More details coming soon.
Judge Kholoud was the first female judge appointed to a Shari'a court in the Middle East, and she is a subject of the documentary Three Judges by filmmakers Erika Cohn and Jennifer Jordan. Judge Kholoud, along with her filmmakers and Executive Producer Geralyn Dreyfous, will be in Salt Lake to raise awareness of the film with the Utah Film Center on February 23, 2013. On February 25, she will be joining the College of Law community during the lunch hour to screen a trailer of the film and engage the audience in questions and answers through an Arabic interpreter.
As one of only a few female judges in Shari'a courts, Judge Kholoud brings unique insight into the adjudication of Islamic law. The film Three Judges serves to directly confront American misconceptions about Islam, and the lunch event is intended to advance the Center for Global Justice's commitment to the exploration of the role of gender in the arena of international human rights.
Refreshments will be served.
